if you happen to work here in san jose, the minimum wage jumps $2 from $8 to $10 an hour. one restaurant here in san jose starting paying their workers that $10 an hour back in december. the owner who owns pizza my heart in san jose says he wants to see how the new pay increase works and if it impacts the bottom line and admits prices on the menu had to increase when wages increased. other businesses say they may have to make similar adjustments, charging customers more in the end. the san jose minimum wage increase was approved by voters back in november and at pizza my heart, the transition, so far, it has been government. >> we raised prices roughly 3 percent overall and that was kind of the test to make sure it covers it, and it has so it has been neutral to us overall. who has the highest minimum wage in the nation, san francisco topped the list with workers making $10.55 an hour and santa fe, new mexico, people are paid $10.51 for minimum wake and now san jose is the third highest in the nation paying workers $10 an hour according to the united states department of labor
. reporting live in san jose, marianne favro, nbc bay area news. >> thank you. >>> the messages inside that arena were powerful, but so is the scene outside. from santa cruz to san jose, thousands of people on the ground and even the police helicopters flying in formation. it's not often we see something like this. let's bring in kimberly tere who continues our coverage this evening from los gatos. >> reporter: raj, this is highway 17, the main corridor between santa cruz and the south bay. we saw law enforcement from the santa cruz area along with many other mourners head back over the hill about an hour and a half ago. the patrol cars had their lights on, but the highway was not shut down like it was during today's procession. the service for the two fallen police officers, lauren "butch" baker and elizabeth butler ended at about 3:00 p.m. law enforcement who showed up from across the continent lined up to pay their final respects. we saw officers from as far away as canada. the royal canadian mountain police were there along with numerous other agencies. reno and las vegas police to

to wear red. >>> san jose police have released a sketch of the driver who triggered yesterday's amber alert. the woman is 38 to 45 years old, 5'5", 160-pounds with a dark complexion and dark hair. police say she stole a jeep with this 11 month old girl inside. her mom left the engine running while she was getting ready to leave for work. officers later found the jeep abandoned at an apartment complex with the girls still inside. mom and daughter were reunited. and oakland police release this video of a suspect wanted for trying to kidnap a nine-year- old girl. the young girl played in front of her home on the 1200 block of 94th avenue. the stranger approached her and began to touch her inappropriately. a family member was able to intervene. the man fled and was last seen jumping into a silver 1990s honda civic. police say he is in his late 20s, 5'8" with a black goatee. >> also tonight, an 8-year-old girl from san rafael is recovering from an arrow wound. juliette goodrich on the class field trip that went haywire. >> this isone of the arrows found in the hillside below the lawrenc

car. this all happened on jerlin drive in an unincorporated area of san jose. three police officers tried to pull over a stolen car. that driver reportedly refused to stop. he instead rammed the back of a police car. police say the suspect tried to run him over. that's when the officer fired the deadly shot. >> two, quick shots. pop, pop. and that's when all the fire department and all the rest of the cops showed up. >> that suspect died at the hospital. police say another person was in that stolen car and is right now being questioned as a witness. no officers were hurt. >>> 4:35. we're learning new details about a raceway crash that killed a 14-year-old boy last weekend. marcus johnson died when his 17-year-old cousin lost control of his car and crashed into the pit area. the johnson family now says chase told them the steering wheel came loose as he entered the turn, causing the crash. the family says the car was new. chase johnson was driving warm-up for a competition when it crashed. >>> the man accused of killing a san francisco newspaper vendor could be in court as early as t

that shut down several lanes of highway 280 in san jose this morning. other drivers found the victim's body in the middle of the freeway around 3:15 this morning and called 911. the victim is identified as 39-year-old amanda vente of san jose. officers don't know why she was walking on the freeway and said all she had on her was a set of keys. the chp is asking for the help of anyone who might have witnessed this hit and run. >>> south bay residents have another chance to turn in guns for cash this weekend. santa clara county is hosting its second gun buy-back event tomorrow morning in east san jose. the first one was held earlier this month and paid out over $100,000 to residents bringing in handguns, rifles and assault weapons. tomorrow's event will run from 8:00 a.m. to noon at reid-hillview airport in east san jose. guns should be brought unloaded in the trunk of a car or bed of a truck. event organizers are also inviting gang members to come down and turn in their gang colors. >>> livermore wine makers are celebrating the start of spring but also keeping a close watch on the weather. l

the dogs in 2007 but the dublin school board voted to bring them back last year. >>> san jose police are looking for two men that are suspected of robbing people leaving a light rail station. janine de la vega is at station with a look at the video police are hoping will lead them to the suspects. >> reporter: the second incident in the last couple of months where victims have been followed off of a light rail station and robbed in neighborhood. the first one happened on ray street but the latest involved a light rail station and happened in the evening hours. police want you to take a good look at these two men. one is black the other is latino and both appear to be in their 20s. on march 8th they followed victims off the train which is near capital avenue. this is video of the two suspects getting off the train. investigators say they confronted the victims in a neighborhood about a half mile away. it was there where they shot the victims. after the victims were robbed the suspects ran away. the first suspect is described as black being 5'10" ta
